Gas Burner Clicking or Won't Light

  1. Make sure the burner cap and grate are seated correctly
  2. Clean the small igniter ports with a soft brush or toothpick
  3. If a burner was recently cleaned or the cooktop wiped down, check the igniter is fully dry
  4. Try another burner on the same cooktop: if all burners click without lighting

Call a technician if cleaning the ports and cap doesn't resolve it, if only one burner is affected after ruling out debris

Repair or replace?

Cooktops typically last 13 to 15 years, similar to ranges. Igniter, element and burner valve repairs are almost always worth it. An induction cooktop with a failed main control board, especially on an older unit, is worth comparing against replacement cost.

Maintenance tips

  • Keep burner ports and igniters clean and dry; food debris is the most common cause of a burner that won't light.
  • Use flat-bottomed, magnetic cookware on induction cooktops — incompatible pans are often mistaken for a hardware fault.
  • Clean glass induction and electric cooktops with a cooktop-safe cleaner to avoid scratching the surface.
  • Don't use cookware with a rough or damaged bottom on a glass cooktop — it can scratch or crack the surface.

A local note

Many Westside and coastal Orange County kitchens run professional-style gas cooktops (Wolf, Viking, Thermador). These use the same ignition and valve systems as mainstream brands underneath, so repairs are usually straightforward even though the equipment looks different.

FAQ

Questions people ask before booking.

Still unsure? Call or text and we'll tell you straight.

(424) 296-8985

How much does a cooktop service call cost?

A $89 service fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead.

Can you really come the same day?

In most of LA and Orange County, yes, if you call or book before early afternoon. We will tell you honestly if your area or the day is fully booked.

Is it worth repairing my cooktop, or should I replace it?

Cooktops typically last 13 to 15 years. Igniter, element and burner valve repairs are almost always worth it. A failed main control board on an older induction cooktop is worth comparing against replacement cost.

Do you repair induction cooktops?

Yes. Many "not heating" induction calls turn out to be incompatible cookware rather than a hardware fault — the technician checks both.

Do you repair professional-style gas cooktops?

Yes, including Wolf, Viking and Thermador — they use the same ignition and valve systems as mainstream brands underneath.

What does the warranty cover?

Every repair is backed by our 90-day labor warranty, in writing, and parts we install carry a 1-year warranty against failures not caused by the customer.
