Known issue: linear compressor failures

LG's linear compressor (used in many French-door refrigerators) has been the subject of a 2014–2017-era class action that settled in 2020, and a newer 2024 suit alleging compressor failures that stop cooling, covering some LG and Kenmore models. One large retailer's service data found about 1.2% of 7,187 LG refrigerators sold 2018–2024 needed a compressor replacement. If your LG fridge has stopped cooling while the freezer still runs cold, it's worth checking LG's compressor warranty terms (often 10 years on many models) directly with LG before paying for a repair out of pocket.
