Bosch Dishwasher Error Codes: E15, E24, E25, E22, E18

Quick answer

E15 means water was detected in the base pan and is the one Bosch code that calls for shutting off the water supply right away. E24 and E25 point to drainage, E22 to a blocked filter, and E18 to low water — most of those four are a filter or hose check before anything else.

Safety first

If your Bosch dishwasher shows E15, turn off the water supply to the dishwasher at the shutoff valve. E15 means the leak-protection float switch has already tripped from water in the base pan — running it again before the leak source is found risks more water damage.

When to call a technician

Call a technician for E15 after you've shut off the water, and for E09 (heating fault) — both involve components we don't recommend troubleshooting yourself.

Why E24 and E25 look similar but aren't

Both point to drainage, but E24 is a blockage somewhere in the path (hose or filter) while E25 is specifically about the pump itself or its cover not being seated correctly. Checking the filter and hose first covers the more common E24 cause; if the dishwasher still won't drain after that, E25's pump-area check is the next step.

A Southern California angle on Bosch filters

Hard water accelerates how quickly the filter and spray arms pick up mineral buildup, which is part of why E22 and cloudy-dish complaints show up more often here than in areas with softer water. See our guide on hard water and your appliances for the fuller picture.

A note on this brand's codes: Bosch publishes additional codes beyond this list — verify any code not shown here on Bosch's support page before assuming it matches one listed above.

Can I keep running my dishwasher with an E22 code?

You can try after cleaning the filter, since that resolves most E22 cases. If it returns right away, stop running cycles until a technician checks it.

Is E15 always a serious leak?

It means the float switch was tripped by water in the base pan, which usually does point to a real leak source somewhere — a worn door gasket, a loose hose connection, or a cracked part. It's worth having checked rather than resetting and ignoring it.

Do Bosch dishwashers need special detergent because of hard water?

A rinse aid helps more than a specific detergent brand. Running the built-in water softener setting, if your model has one, also helps in hard-water areas like LA and Orange County.
