What you can check yourself
0 / 4 checked
- Clean the lint filter, then run Samsung's built-in Vent Blockage test (check your manual for the exact menu steps on your model) — a restricted result means the vent needs cleaning before anything else.
- Check the outside vent flap opens freely and isn't blocked by lint, a bird nest, or debris.
- For a 3C (motor) or oD (dry-time) code, power-cycle the dryer and run a short test cycle before concluding a part has failed.
- For dC/dE/dF/do (door) codes, make sure the door is fully closed and nothing is caught in the latch.

Book a visitWhen to call a technician
Call a technician for HC2 (gas ignition error on gas models), or for any heat code that persists after you've confirmed the vent is clear — at that point it's likely the heating element, thermostat or a gas valve issue, not venting.
Why vent blockage is the real root cause so often
A restricted vent forces the dryer to run hotter and longer to dry the same load, which is exactly the condition Samsung's heat-related codes are designed to catch. It's also a fire-safety issue, not just an inconvenience — see our guide on dryers that take too long for the full picture on lint and vent fires.
In LA and Orange County, long or awkwardly routed vent ducts are common in condos, converted garages and multi-unit buildings where the dryer isn't right next to an exterior wall. Those longer runs trap more lint and are a frequent reason a dryer that used to dry fine now throws a heat code.
A note on this brand's codes: Codes vary by model and production year — check your owner's manual or Samsung's support site for your exact model if your display shows something not listed here.
