What you can check yourself

- Find your exact model number (inside the door frame or on a sticker on the back) — Samsung's code list can vary slightly between models.
- Power-cycle the washer: unplug it for 60 seconds, or switch it off at the breaker, then restart. Several codes, including calibration and sensor glitches, clear with a reset.
- If the code points to filling or draining, check both supply hoses are fully open and not kinked, and that the drain hose isn't blocked or sitting too high.
- If the code points to the door or lid, make sure nothing — a sock, a strap — is caught in the door and preventing it from latching.
Still not working? A technician can take it from here.
Book a visitWhen to call a technician
Call a technician if the code involves the heater (HC/HE/HE1/Hr), the motor circuit, or returns right after a reset. Never open the cabinet to access electrical components yourself.
Why Samsung uses so many similar-looking codes
Samsung reuses the same underlying fault across several display formats, which is why you'll see a code like "not draining" listed as 5C, 5E, SC, SE and nd depending on the washer's age and display type. They all point to the same system, so the fix is the same regardless of which exact string shows on your display.
The most common codes we see in LA and Orange County
4C/4E/nF (not filling) and 5C/5E (not draining) are the two most common service calls on Samsung washers in this area, and a lot of it comes down to Southern California's hard water: mineral buildup narrows the inlet screens over time, which a Samsung washer reads as a water-supply problem even though the valves themselves are fine.
dC/dE (door not closed or locked) is the other frequent call, especially on newer front-load models with a stronger door interlock — a worn door latch assembly is a quick, inexpensive fix when caught early.
A note on this brand's codes: Codes vary by model and production year. This list reflects Samsung's published support documentation as of this guide's last review — check your owner's manual or Samsung's support site for your exact model if your display shows something not listed here.
